7/8/2023 0 Comments Japanese candlestick charting![]() ![]() ![]() There are many different shapes and sizes to the candlesticks and the patterns they form, all of which come with their own special names. This reflects a negative sentiment in the market. ![]() When the close is less than the open price, then the body of the candlestick is black. This reflects a positive sentiment in the market. When the close is greater than the open price, then the body of the candlestick is white. The body of the candle, or “real body”, measures the distance between the open and the close. The shadow or wick shows the distance between the high and the low. The way it works is that one candlestick shows the open, high, close and low point of the price at a given timeframe. The Japanese Candlestick method of visualising charts is one of, if not the, most popular methods of looking at charts for the modern trader. The Japanese version of price charting uses a shape similar to a candlestick as a visual representation. ![]()

![]() One of the things I loved most about The Jasmine Throne was the beautiful world-building filled with fascinating magic and competing gods. ![]() The Oleander Sword thankfully delivered in every way imaginable, and it had me so glued to the story that I finished the second half of the book in one sitting, which unfortunately necessitated an all-nighter that I’m now somewhat regretting. I hoped that the sequel would do a bit more and move the story forward at a faster pace now that the groundwork was laid out in The Jasmine Throne. I enjoyed the first book in this series quite a bit because of the lush world-building and memorable characters, but it had a plodding pace that made me feel as if every one of its 500+ pages was dragging by. ![]() My review contains my honest thoughts about my reading experience.*** ![]() ***Thank you to Orbit Books for providing a copy of the book via NetGalley. ![]() 7/8/2023 0 Comments The prisoner of heaven book![]() ![]() The most vividly lovable person here is Fermín, a master of comically flowery rhetoric, who claims that "obstetrics, after free verse, is one of my hobbies". The evil prison governor, whose eyes are "blue, penetrating and sharp, alive with greed and suspicion", is a movie-villain cliché, but cliché is sometimes just what is needed to maintain the blissful narrative drive of a high-class mystery. ![]() Scene-setting is crisp, and minor characters expertly sketched: a priest with "the manners of a retired boxer", or a scrivener who guarantees the effects of his erotic love poetry. Melodrama succeeds when there is no embarrassment in its execution, and Zafón is a splendidly solicitous craftsman, careful to give the reader at least as much pleasure as he is evidently having. ![]() Set in a prison castle after the victory of Franco in the civil war, with an ambience of lice, cold and summary executions, it features a novelist, imprisoned and denounced as "the worst writer in the world", who is blackmailed into polishing the prison governor's own execrable literary efforts. As with The Shadow of the Wind, there is a historical story within the story. ![]() 7/7/2023 0 Comments John halkin slime![]() ![]() ![]() An enthusiastic "Hell no!" is the correct answer. ![]() Can you really ever go wrong with ‘Rebel High’, ‘Arena’, ‘Split’, ‘Dolls’, ‘Street Trash’, or ‘Story of Ricky’. The gems in the rough however, a completely different story films that truly destroy all opposition and lay down the law, kicking ass and remaining films I either still cherish to this day and would pay at least 20 bucks for a copy of. As anyone who has tried asserting their own individual tastes in this manner can attest, about 95% of everything that we checked out was complete garbage. During these excursions, we’d rent anything that we’d never heard of, the cheesier the better, even purveyors of pure trash like TNT or USA wouldn’t touch these films with a ten foot pole. ![]() We can call these the formative years of whatever degree of ‘indie’ phase I might have gone through, where nothing seemed so cool as to denounce someone’s film acumen mockingly, with a showstopping dis like “You haven’t seen Street Trash…pshaw!” In retrospect, this was probably why nobody liked me. There was an idyllic time when I enjoyed nothing more than skulking about the local video store (Video Villa) with my pal The Gak and searching for the most preposterous and obscure crap we could get our hands on. ![]() 7/7/2023 0 Comments Lake in the clouds sara donati![]() ![]() For a bounty hunter is afoot-Hannah’s childhood friend and first love, Liam Kirby. And, in an unusual instance of literature melding into real life, he plans to display those objects in an actual "Museum of Innocence," which he hopes to open in Istanbul in July 2010. Pamuk began collecting the objects that his protagonist Kemal would save before he even began writing the novel. "This is love in a semirepressed society, where communication between men and women is limited, where sex outside of marriage - especially before marriage - is also a taboo," Pamuk tells Robert Siegel. ![]() Set in Istanbul in the 1970s and 1980s, the novel focuses on the subtle ways people communicate love - including glances, silences and cherished mementos. ![]() Turkish novelist and Nobel Prize winner Orhan Pamuk describes his latest work as a love story that "doesn't put love on a pedestal." Instead, The Museum of Innocence is about one man's obsession with a beautiful young woman - and the museum collection he dedicates to the affair that derailed his life. Hello everybody, it’s terrific to be here, and to be invited to be here, for this Commemoration of Andrea Dworkin, because of course her politics and her writings have been enormously influential in my life.
